5 ways to increase your endurance

Increasing your endurance isn’t a matter of being able to run a marathon. It’s simply being able to keep up and do all the little things in life.

We’ve all been there before. Whether its forgetting to do something, falling asleep on the couch, getting puffed chasing after the kids or even not having the energy to cook dinner. It’s normal to feel tired and exhausted especially when you aren’t looking after yourself as well as you could be.

That’s when you need to increase your endurance levels to ensure you can stay on top of things. But, how can you increase your endurance to succeed in all aspects of life?

Here are five tips to give you a head start

1. Go a little bit further, a little bit harder

Each time you exercise try walking/running a few more steps, an extra minute or two or even just making it one street further than you did last time. It doesn’t have to be much, have patience with yourself and yourself and your body. Give yourself time to adapt to the small changes you are making and remember that small manageable steps will become huge leaps in endurance.

2. Ditch the quick fixes

Sure eating that chocolate bar may cure your sugar cravings and give you a small energy boost. But it won’t sustain you through the afternoon. Consuming excess sugar puts your mitochondria under stress, causing them to emit free radicals. This is called cell stress. So, small changes in your diet can help reduce this oxidative damage to your cells. As well as giving you the right energy to get past that afternoon slump.

3. Slow down

We get it. You’re busy and you don’t have time to stop. But if you’re rushing around constantly, so will your stress levels. It’s a bit like running, slowing down your pace will ensure your effort is easier. If you’re feeling wiped out every day, try slowing down a bit. You’ll be amazed how much clearer your mind will be and how efficient you can be.

4. HIIT

HIIT is the acronym for High Intensity Interval Training. But don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sounds. Increasing your heart rate can help your overall cardiovascular performance, building endurance in your body. So, HIIT is great for boosting your heart rate and your blood pumping.

5. Rest

It may sound strange but days off are important for you to relax. Taking some time to rest, recover and rejuvenate is important. Plus, it will put you in a positive frame of mind to tackle everything.
